Doing Disney Dirt Cheap!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you are a person who likes to get a bang for your buck, especially while traveling, planning a vacation to Disneyland may not be something that you can achieve; however, doing some research and following some easy steps, you will find that not only will you pay much lower prices than anticipated, planning a cheap Disney vacation will be just your cup of tea! While it is very easy to pay a huge price for flights, accommodations, admission tickets and food for a vacation to Disneyland, if you are budget friendly, keeping your price in the low-range is not only possible, but fun too!

Choosing a slower time of the year, tourist-wise, will help keep you within your budget. The times when children are normally in school is considered the "off-season" and therefore, the park is not attracting as many visitors as in the busier "on-season", so discounts and specials are often advertised during these times. The weather may be a bit chillier (requiring a lightweight coat, and occasionally an umbrella) and you may have to take your kids out of school, but the upsides are that you will not have to worry about big lines to attractions, with an average wait time of one hour and the crowds will be much smaller at parades, shows and character greetings. The park hours are shorter than in the busier months, but that will allow you to get a good night's rest and be ready and raring to go bright and early the next morning.

Your food budget can be blown within days of visiting Disneyland if you are not careful. Dining inside of the park is definitely more expensive than anywhere outside of the park. There are a couple of restaurants (the Blue Bayou and Rainforest Café) that you should splurge on, but other than that, try eating at restaurants elsewhere. If you would like to eat at least one meal a day inside of Disneyland or California Adventure, take full advantage of the continental breakfast that most hotels offer, fill up on some good carbohydrates and fresh fruit in the morning that will tide you over until lunchtime. Eat a hearty snack (perhaps a corn dog and an ice cream) that will fill you up enough to perhaps skip lunch and then splurge on a dinner inside of Disneyland.

Following these two simple steps will easily give you the cheap Disney vacation that your budget will allow while still giving you the dream vacation that you desire.

Disney World Dining - How To Dine With A Princess or Eat With A Mouse

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Who would you like to dine with on your Walt Disney World vacation? Mickey Mouse, a Disney Princess or perhaps Alice in Wonderland? Disney World character dining is a very popular choice. But is it for you?

A Walt Disney World character meal is a unique experience for you and your family. There is simply no other place to dine with Cinderella and Mickey Mouse! It is a great chance for you to get plenty of time with your favorite Disney World characters and it is an experience that all the family, whatever their age, will remember for a long time as one of the highlights of their Disney World vacation.

There is a great variety of Disney World character dining choices. From breakfast to brunch, dinner to lunch. Disney character meals are buffet, menu or family style ( where all you can eat choices are brought to your table). The quality of the food is generally high. It is often more expensive to dine in a Disney World character restaurant than elsewhere in the theme park for comparable food - but you are paying for the unique experience too. After all it isn't every day you get to dine with a Disney Princess.

Decide which Disney characters you would like to see. A very popular choice is the Disney Princess dining at Cinderella's Royal Table. Here you will get to dine in Cinderella's Castle in the Magic Kingdom. An amazing experience but remember to book as early as you can as it is very popular. Another way to see your favorite Disney Princess is to go to the Akershus Princess Royal Dining in the EPCOT theme park. Here you will usually find at least four or five of your favorite Disney Princesses at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Perhaps Mickey Mouse is more your style. A great place to find him is Chef Mickey's in the Disney World Contemporary Resort on your way to Magic Kingdom.

If your want to see a particular character always check before you go to see that they are appearing that particular time - a lot of the restaurants do have a fixed schedule of characters, but they do sometimes change. Try not to make a promise to your child that they will see a particular Disney character as they may be disappointed if it is Cinderella's day off!

Remember that sometimes actually meeting a Disney character can be a little overwhelming for your child. All the Disney characters are excellent at winning over a nervous child and also knowing when it is time to leave, but be sensitive to your child's feelings about this. Meeting a life size Winnie The Pooh for the first time can be too much for your toddler!

To go ahead and book a Disney World character dining experience it is advisable to book ahead by calling 407 WDW DINE to make an Advance Dining Reservation. You can call up to 180 days ahead and for some experiences such as Cinderella's Royal Table it really is advisable to call as far ahead as you possibly can. Disney World character dining is a great experience and it is very popular!

Whichever Disney World character dining experience you choose have a magical time!

Disney Character Meet and Greets

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Walt Disney World Resort is a favorite destination spot for many travelers, and with good reason. There is an abundance of things to see and do for children and adults alike. From fast paced thrill rides to 3-D movie attractions, to character meet and greets, you may not be able to fit everything into one trip!

Children especially love to meet the Disney characters. At one of the many character greeting spots located throughout Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, Disney guests can pose for pictures with their favorite characters. Kids will love getting a hug from Mickey himself as well as having their autograph books signed.

So where are the best spots to meet those characters? At the Magic Kingdom resort you'll find plenty of characters and princesses at Mickey's Toontown Hall of Fame Tent. While visiting Epcot try the Character Spot and enjoy time with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and other beloved characters. At Disney's Hollywood Studios you might try the character meet and greet spot inside the Animation Tour building which usually features characters from the latest Disney animated features. Also, along nearby Mickey Avenue, there are character greeting stations for your convenience. One of the best places to see characters at Animal Kingdom is in Camp Minnie-Mickey.

Okay, so we all love those Disney Characters. But how many can you name from memory? Even the biggest Disney fans have trouble naming them all. You can have fun planning for your trip to the World by visiting various websites and learning about your favorite characters or possibly discover a new character that you're not so familiar with. Maybe you'll learn some interesting Disney facts about the characters that you could share with your family while on vacation. Won't they be impressed!

Well, have fun planning for your next trip to Walt Disney World and remember to schedule some down time into your itinerary to get the most enjoyment of your time there.

Are You Too Old to Have Goals?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I was visiting with a friend the other day; we were talking about some of the things I have written about setting goals. I was surprised to hear her say: "Oh, I'm too old to have goals!"

Yes, I was surprised, especially since we're both about the same age! I responded that you're never too old to have goals, but I've been thinking about it a lot ever since. Is there a time when you're "too old" to have goals? Let's take a look at a few examples.

Colonel Sanders

Everyone recognizes the picture of Colonel Sanders and links it automatically to the KFC restaurant chain that he founded. But not everyone knows how that franchise chain started. You can get more information about Colonel Sanders' background on Wikipedia, where I went to refresh my memory and verify some facts and dates.

Colonel Sanders had a thriving restaurant business established in Corbin, Kentucky when, in 1955, Interstate 75 was constructed and diverted the traffic flow away from his business. He was 65 at the time. (That's a little older than my friend!) Colonel Sanders responded to this challenge by starting to franchise a new chain of restaurants named "Kentucky Fried Chicken." He used his Social Security check to fund his efforts aimed at finding people to sign up with his franchise.

At 65 years old, Colonel Sanders started a new business. He continued building it until he sold it in 1964, but he continued acting as the company's spokesman. He died in 1971. He was 90 years old.

I don't know how Colonel Sanders laid out his goals when he started KFC, but he obviously didn't think he was "too old"!

Walt Disney

Walt Disney was truly one of the greats in the American entertainment business. He was a film producer, screen writer, director, voice actor, and animator. Disneyland and Walt Disney World are both named after him.

Walt Disney died at age 65 from lung cancer.

So, what does all this have to do with goal setting? Well, even though Walt Disney was in his 60s, he was still setting and achieving goals. Walt Disney World opened a few years after his death. This was his dream project! He was active in developing it and what we now know as the EPCOT center was a key part of his vision.

Because of his lung cancer, Walt Disney never saw that vision become reality. But that didn't stop the project. His family continued to work to make his dream come true.

We'll never know whether Walt Disney would ever have become "too old" to set goals and follow his dreams. But from the evidence we can see from his inspirational and productive life, I think we know the answer!

Senator McCain

My last example is someone we are hearing a lot about these days. Senator McCain is running for the presidency of the United States. If he wins he will be 72 years old when he takes office.

Now, I'm not interested in a discussion of whether he is too old for the office. Everyone can have their own opinion on that. But, we can all agree that Senator McCain doesn't think he would be too old!

We can also all agree that the senator obviously doesn't think he's too old to work to achieve his goals. Running for the presidency is probably one of the most trying, exhausting activities you could attempt. You don't do it unless you have some very real, very important goals!

How about You?

Obviously, I have no idea how old you are. It doesn't really matter. Identifying your own goals and honestly pursuing them can be one of the most rewarding and satisfying things you can do. I firmly believe that if you continue to pursue your goals with positive belief and enthusiasm, you will never be old. You may have many years of life...but you won't be old!

How to Get the Most Out of Your Day at Disneyland

You've finally decided to bite the bullet, spend the money and take the family to Disneyland for a day. You want this to be a great day for everyone; after all, isn't this the Happiest Place on Earth? Here are some tips to ensure that your day is as full of fun and as free of hassles as is humanly possible.

Do Your Homework

Before you go, print out a map of Disneyland from their website. Learn where all the rides are and plan your day so that you're not running around the park constantly trying to get to the next ride. For example, if you don't make a plan, you may find yourself heading to Space Mountain for the older kids first, then hiking over to Toon Town for the little ones, then on to Splash Mountain for the big kids again and back to Fantasyland for It's a Small World. Instead, try to stay within one area and complete all the rides, shopping, etc. in that area before moving on to the next.

Prioritize

Crowds can be a problem and keep you from seeing all the sites you'd like. Also, you don't want to spend your entire day standing in line for rides. So, have each family member choose the one thing he or she cannot miss and make a plan accordingly. If you're lucky, there'll be some overlap; but, even if the choices land you at opposite corners of the park, with careful planning, you can still guarantee that everyone's wish is fulfilled.

Split Up

If your kids are the same age, this might not be necessary, but if there is an age gap, you and your spouse may need to split up and take the kids to different spots in the park. This way, everyone has a better chance of doing the things they enjoy most and having a really fun day. Just make certain that you meet up at different times during the day to share your adventures with the rest of the family and make some memories together.

Make Use of the Fast Pass

This is a great idea Disneyland implemented a few years ago for the most popular rides. You can now get a pass (and yes you may have to stand in line for that too!) that allows you to come back at a designated time and enter the ride without waiting in a huge line. You can still opt to wait in the standby line if you like, but the Fast Pass holders get first priority.

Have Realistic Expectations

Young children get tired and may need a break during the day. If you're staying in a nearby hotel, it might be worth it to get your hands stamped, return to the hotel to rest for a bit, then return to the park refreshed and ready for round two. If you're just at the park for the day, find a quiet place off the beaten path and people watch while your youngster naps. If your older kids are still raring to go and your youngest has passed out, you might try a trip to Tom Sawyer's Island, where the big kids can run around while the little one naps.

Anyone can have a good time at Disneyland, but with advanced planning and the right attitude, you and your family can have a really great time!

Disney Tiki

If you have children, chances are good that your children will eventually want to visit Disneyland. While you're there, be sure to check out the unique tiki culture on display. Both the Polynesian Resort and the Enchanted Tiki Room grew out of Walt Disney's desire to showcase island culture with a tiki room theme. Both opened at a time when tiki decor was quite popular on the mainland, and these attractions have remained popular ever since. They represent an important cultural side of Disneyland that you should not miss.

While visiting Disneyland, consider staying at the Polynesian Resort. This unique hotel features tiki décor, which is fun for kids and adults alike. Tiki décor has been popular on the mainland since the 1940's, and the Polynesian Resort offers a beautiful take on this decorating style. Each room has a Hawaiian tiki motif, with wooden tikis and bamboo accents. Because the resort was originally built in the 1960's, it also has a retro feel, although it has been updated several times since then. You'll feel like you are staying in an island in the South Pacific without ever leaving the mainland.

The resort is not built in a high-rise building, but instead it has several intimate two- or three-story buildings scattered over the grounds. The area of the Polynesian resort features dense vegetation; even after you step outside the room you'll still feel like you are in an island paradise. These grounds include white sandy beaches complete with hammocks and lounge chairs. There are several Polynesian restaurants in the resort, so you can even sample some traditional island fare. For adults, there is also a traditionally-styled tiki bar.

Once you get to the park, make sure that you stop at Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room. One of the more unique attractions in Disneyland, it is a theater featuring Polynesian characters and wildlife. There are over 150 animatronic characters that come to life during the sixteen minute ride. In fact, this attraction was the first to feature Disney's audio-animatronic system. It opened in 1963 in Adventureland, and has long been one of the more popular attractions in the park. The show is "hosted" by four singing macaws, and also features other tropical birds, tiki totems and masks, flowers, and drummers. Animatronic Hawaiian tiki gods are located around the perimeter, each telling their own story. There is also a version of the Enchanted Tiki Room at Tokyo Disneyland, as well as one at Disney World.

When visiting Disneyland, be sure to learn about the tiki culture you get the chance to experience in the Polynesian Resort and the Enchanted Tiki Room. Tiki culture is built around distinctive wooden or stone figures with large, flat heads in proportion to their bodies. These statues play an integral part in the decor of both the Polynesian Resort and the Enchanted Tiki Room. You'll also see other decor choices that have been popular parts of tiki décor in the U.S., including bamboo, dried grass, and thatched roofs.

What to Do at Disneyland

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you have never been to Disneyland before or if it has been a few years since you have been there chances are you are going to be overwhelmed with all of the things that you can do there. Disneyland offers a ton of activities for the whole family, but what you choose to do is going to vary based on whom you are traveling with.

If you are traveling with young girls or even teenage girls one of the best activities you can do is to meet all of the Disney princesses. One way to ensure that you meet the Disney princesses is to go to Goofy's Kitchen for a meal because every day there is at least one of the Disney princesses greeting the guests that come through. You can also meet the various Disney princesses in different parts of the park, including the front gates. The Disney princesses that are touring the park are going to vary each day, so you might have to come back to meet your favorite Disney princess.

One of the best parts about meeting the Disney characters is that there are more than just the Disney princesses to meet; you can also meet the Disney princes. If you have a little boys with you in Disneyland dressing them up in princes costumes is something else that you can do at Disneyland or before you get there. Being dressed up in princes costumes makes it more interesting when they get to meet the Disney princes, while their sisters are meeting the Disney princesses. Being dressed up in princes costumes can even make the picture taking experience more enjoyable, especially if they are dressed exactly like the Disney prince that they are meeting.

Something else that you can do while visiting Disneyland is to go shopping for a Cinderella princess costume, but you can also shop for other princess costumes. One of the best things about getting a Cinderella princess costume from Disneyland is that it will be a true Cinderella princess costume, not some cheap knock off. You also have a better chance of finding all of the accessories that go with a Cinderella Princess Costume because this is where the Cinderella princess costume was first created, so it makes sense for them to carry the largest selection. The only drawback to buying the Cinderella princess costume at Disneyland is the price is going to be higher than retail stores, but the quality is going to be better than what you can find elsewhere.

Obviously, the best thing to do at Disneyland is to ride on all of the fun rides that are provided, but you can fit that in around all of your other plans. While you are visiting Disneyland you might find it helpful to write out a daily plan just to ensure that you get everything done that you want to do while visiting Disneyland.

Discount Disneyland Vacation Packages - Discount Travel When Times Are Tough

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Having a vacation in Disneyland, just like having a vacation anywhere else, requires careful and deliberate planning. This holds true the most when you're having a vacation with your family. Discount Disneyland vacation packages should come in handy if you want to be spared of the hassle of having to book a flight, a hotel, transportation from your hotel to Disneyland, tickets for the attractions, and other minor but pesky details.

When considering a vacation package, take note of the hotel, the airfare, theme park admission prices, transportation, and meals. Most of all, take note of "hidden" fees such as processing fees by travel agencies whether online or office-based to make sure you're not being overcharged.

Discount Disneyland vacation packages should already market themselves as more affordable than booking everything by yourself, but they should be more affordable than they are already on off-peak seasons. Budget constraints can be further minimized if your timing is right. Take advantage of discount Disneyland vacation packages that are available on lean, off-peak, or as what travel industry insiders call "value" season. Usually, these off-peak seasons comes in fall, where students go back to school, a main cause of a drop in tourists.

Moreover, attractions are being renovated during the value season, so you may miss some major attractions and feel like you didn't get your money's worth. Last but not the least, budget vacation packages will only give you, at most, 2 days in Disneyland. Be ready to be rushed in all the attractions and be prepared to accept that you cannot go everywhere in Disneyland in 2 days, as it is quite a huge place.

Budget Disneyland Vacations

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Perhaps you have always wanted to go to Disneyland for that dream vacation. You may have thought that it was too expensive, but you will actually find that it is possible to play out budget Disneyland vacations that won't cost you all that much. If you are willing to do a bit of planning, there are ways to save some money and still go on that vacation that you have been dreaming of for so long.

Go During the Off Season

One great idea to help you go on that vacation to Disneyland is to go during the off season. Budget Disneyland vacations are easy to book when you choose the off months that are not quite as popular for tourists. Not only can you save on the actual admission charges to Disneyland during this time, but hotels, resorts, and flights are usually cheaper during these times as well. The best months to book in usually include February through May or September through November.

Go with a Package Deal

When it comes to getting budget Disneyland vacations, going with a package deal is often the best option and the cheapest. You will find that package deals can save you a huge amount of money. Purchase everything separately and you will spend a lot more. Often you are able to get nice packages that include your airfare, your hotel, a rental car, and even tickets to Disneyland and various events in the area. These package deals offer great savings. Although it may take a bit more planning for you to get the entire package, it is worth it for all the savings you'll enjoy.

Get Tickets in Advance

Getting tickets in advance can help you to take budget Disneyland vacations that don't break the bank. This is especially true when it comes to booking your airline tickets. The closer you get to the date of departure, the more you will end up paying. Book early and you will be able to save a significant amount. Even booking the actual tickets to Disneyland can help you to save as well. Often you can find special promotions and book ahead of time for a great deal that suits your budget.

Work to Save Money on Food

If your goal is to take a vacation on a budget to Disneyland, one way to stretch your budget is to work to save money on food while you are vacation. Plan only to eat a certain amount of meals out. Some meals may come with your package, but you won't have all your meals offered to you. Eating out can get expensive fast. Try to find a room where you will have a fridge so you can keep snacks and even some lunch or breakfast items around to eat. This way you don't rack up a huge amount of money just on eating while on vacation.

Budget Disneyland vacations do exist. You don't have to give up that dream of going to Disneyland with the kids just because the budget is tighter this year. Look for good deals on packages to Disneyland and look for other ways to save. This way you can enjoy your vacation while spending as little money as possible.

Even the Big Kids Can Have Fun at Disneyland in Florida

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I flew to Orlando Florida from Edinburgh in the summer of 1996 to visit Disneyland, and I was not disappointed. I stayed in Kissimmee in Orlando which is not far from all the big parks. I stayed in a lovely hotel with a swimming pool and outside bar. Being America, I wasn't short of things to do. Disneyland itself was absolutely fantastic. The Americans really know how to do things. If you have children or you are still a child at heart then this is the place for you. The rides are amazing, as is the general landscape of the parks. Your every visual need is catered for in large doses! Of course the fantastic weather makes it all the better; not having to plan your day around the rain and having appropriate clothing,as we do in this country, is a huge bonus. However, when I was there in August there were the most amazing lightning storms. Which were great, if you were indoors, but not so great if you were caught out in it. The torrential rain is one thing, but the huge forks of lightning are another.

You really need to spend all day, maybe even two, in each park to do them justice. Be warned that the queues for the rides can be extremely long. However, the park has set up lots of things to keep you entertained while you are waiting. The wait may still be a bit too long for very young children though.

The biggest rides are truly amazing. With each demonstrating a host of technologies all utilised to make you feel like you have actually been transported to a different place. One moment you can be up Space Mountain, while the next you can go all the way Back to the Future. Bush gardens was a real favourite of mine. While it of course has a huge variety of wild animals, the rides are also truly amazing. My favourite being the Tanganyika Tidal wave: get ready to get very wet! There are also a huge variety of places to eat within the park. You should have no problem finding food to suit every diet but be warned: this is America and the portions are absolutely enormous.

Night life is also extremely varied. You can experience anything from a quiet meal to live entertainment all available within a very short distance. Most Americans still take taxis, even over short distances, so you may as well do the same. Obviously there are some less safe areas that you may want to avoid, like downtown Orlando. The parks themselves though, don't close at night. They just come alive again so you can choose to experience New Year's Eve every night of the week if you want to. The American people are extremely friendly and always willing to help you have a great time, especially at Disneyland. They may seem a little over the top at breakfast when you need some peace and quiet to recover from the night before though.

Fun Vacation Spots For Kids

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Depending the way you plan your vacation with kids, it can either be a memorable fun-filled experience or a disaster. The time you and your kids decide to go on a family vacation, the most important thing to do is take into account what your kids like to do and what they do not. In addition, also consider how your kids will cope with crowds, heat and noise. All these factors play a big role in zeroing on the ideal vacation place for your family.

It is not necessary that fun vacation spots for kids have to be expensive places. Most children are pleased very easily and are content with simple things. It is amazing to see how excited kids can get when making sandcastles.

Anyway there are some fun vacation spots for kids that also have something to offer adults.

Walt Disney World Resort: It is the most visited recreation park in the world. All kids would love to spend a holiday here living the magical moments of Disneyland. There are two theme parks, two water parks, 23 themed hotels, and unimaginable dining, shopping and recreational places. This is one of the best places to visit with children who would feel excited about riding the giant roller coasters and meeting their favorite cartoon and fairytale characters.

Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Maine: Offers so many attractions that your kids will be busy right through the vacation. Besides the amazing sand and pristine clear water, there are amusement rides, plenty of eating joints and carnival games. You can also go downtown to shop at the candy stores and boutiques.

Hershey Park: This beautiful theme park spans 110 acres and has around 60 rides. There are exciting water rides, family rides, kids' rides, and live concerts and shows. And which will not want to spend a vacation in the Chocolate Town of US.

Snowbird Resort, Utah: Come winter, you can head to this resort to enjoy various winter activities like snowboarding, snowmobiling, snow tubing and ice skating. Right round the year, the resort holds live music concerts and organizes many competitive races. You can even enroll the kids into ski schools to hone their skiing abilities.
