Things You Must See at Disneyland

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Disneyland has many options available and unless you have a few days you won't be able to see everything. Here are some suggestions about what to see during your visit to make it as memorable as possible. This really is one of the most fun places on the planet, and if you are taking kids be prepared for a real battle when you want to leave. Still it will leave you and them with memories you will cherish forever. So here are some of things you must see during your visit.

If you have young children then they are going to want to see Dumbo the flying elephant and all the other kid's rides available in this area. Mr Toad's wild ride is really popular attraction for young children and they will get to experience all the wonders of the Wind in the Willows characters. This is also one of the oldest rides in the park. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous then you will want to visit the Matterhorn where you will find the most terrifying and enjoyable rides in the park. Space Mountain is another one of the roller coasters you will want to visit.

If you fancy something a bit more relaxing then why not go on a jungle cruise. During your trip you will pass through the jungles of Africa, South America, and Asia and you will get to see Elephant, Tigers, and even members of different tribes.

Autopia is great for young kids who want the experience of driving a car without there being any chance of accident. The cars give the illusion of control but there is no way that you can actually steer off the track.

For those people who like a good scare then they will not want to miss Haunted Mansions. The frights start from the very beginning as you move around in your doom buggies.

Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage lets visitors experience an unforgettable submarine ride where they get to see the magical underwater world. This is another one of the most popular Disneyland attractions and you will even get to see an erupting volcano

Splash Mountain is a ride that will take you for a leisurely ride on a log with the occasional drop to get your heart racing. There are plenty of things to see as make your way along the ride.

Main Street USA is the place to do a bit of shopping after you have had your fill of rides. If you are after gifts then you will have no trouble finding things here. If you like Mickey Mouse then you will find an astounding number of different items dedicated to this character.

If you want to see the whole of Disneyland then hop on the monorail and see all there is to see in the shortest possible time. This is a great to get your bearings and get an overview of the park. If you get a seat at the front or back then you can be sure of the finest view in the park.

World of Disney Movies

Disney Pictures have arguably produced the most of the best animated films we have for cinema. Their top films can be considered as the best animated cinema films overall, with some classic titles that made history. We have assembled some of their best films for you to take a look if you haven't seen them:

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Snow White is a classic Disney film that made its debut in 1937. Disney films' first full length animation production, for being culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant, it has been added to the United States Film registry. To this day, it remains the ninth highest grossing Disney picture, which is an achievement considering other films with modern productions. Take a trip to the Magic Kingdom by Disney guide, and Snow White will be there!

The Jungle Book
This was the last film that Walt Disney himself worked on in 1967. The film was based on the classic book by Rudyard Kipling. It features a string of classic Disney songs that became household songs and is one of the most popular films in the Disney collection

Fantasia (1990 re-issue)
This movie features a lot of popular Disney characters that includes Mickey Mouse. At any rate, it has a classic soundtrack and was reissued in 1990 where a digital sound was applied. The film won two honoree academy awards for its soundtrack, and has been preserved in the United States film registry for its value.

Beauty and the Beast
This was a Disney film at their best in 1991. The movie has great animation and broad-way like musical, and a strong supporting cast which ultimately appeals to all ages, a Disney film like no other. It is also considered as one the best films of its decade competing with live action film aside from being a classic. The first animation to be nominated for best picture at the academy awards.

Aladdin
Aladdin was another great Disney film, which followed Beauty and the Beast in 1991. It put all the genres of a movie into one, it has action, romance and comedy with a scene stealer genie. It is one of Disney's highest grossing animated films overall and undoubtedly one of their best.

The Lion King
In 1994 This film opened in theaters and is notable for its excellent animation work. Backed by a great soundtrack and with an epic story; it is one of Disney's best films.

Toy Story
Toy Story was the first 3D CGI Disney film to venture away from the standard animation that they usually employ. It was a tech marvel in 1995, and a finely crafted film to boot.

Finding Nemo (2003)
Pixar and Disney found a hit with Toy Story after incorporating 3D CGI, so they make another one, Finding Nemo. However, Finding Nemo exceeded Toy Story as Disney's biggest hit to date. The cute characters made a good market with children and adults smashing box office records.

Pick your favorite Disney Animation and make it as your guide to Walt Disney World fantasy and fairytale.

Disney Dining - Which Character Meal is the Best at Disney World?

Currently, there are 13 different restaurants at Walt Disney World that offer character dining experiences. So trying to decide which character meal is the best at Disney World is a little difficult. A lot of the answer to that question really depends on which characters you and your children would like to see.

Dining with the Disney Princesses

One of the most popular choices is to dine with the Disney princesses at Cinderella's Royal Table. Located in Cinderella's castle inside Fantasyland, Cinderella's Table offers a prix fixe menu. So you will be served your meal at the table. You can book reservations for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the princesses come to visit at all three meals. Breakfast is by far the most desired reservation at Cinderella's table as you will be sitting down to enjoy your breakfast before the Magic Kingdom even opens.

Either Cinderella's Royal Table or the Princess Storybook Dining buffet at the Norwegian restaurant in Epcot may be the best choices if you have little girls who just love the Disney princesses, but if you have little boys or older children who think princesses are for baby (so says my 8 year old niece!), then they might not be the best character meal for you.

So really, it is best to decide what Disney characters you enjoy and make plans accordingly.

Dining with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck or Winnie the Pooh and Friends

You will find Winnie the Pooh and his friends at The Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom. Donald Duck will be at Donald's Safari Breakfast at the Tusker House restaurant in Animal Kingdom. Mickey Mouse and Goofy hold court at either the Cape May Cafe in Disney's Beach Club Resort, or you can find them at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort.

Chip & Dale usually show up at Chef Mickey's too, but you can also find them at the Garden Grill Restaurant in Epcot. Love Lilo & Stitch? They host the character breakfast at the 'Ohana restaurant in the Polynesian resort.

Your choice may also depend on what type of food you would like to eat. But for most options, this may be the easiest choice to make. Many of the character meals at Disney World are served buffet style. The most common cuisine is just standard American. In fact, of the 13 restaurants that offer character dining, they all offer standard American fare. So any picky eaters in your family should be just fine. Restaurants like 'Ohana's and Tusker House serve regional cuisines (Polynesian and African, respectively) at other times of day, but for their breakfast buffets, the menu is pretty much what you would expect for breakfast.

If you want to have a character meal that goes beyond the standard American menu, your best bet may be the Princess Storybook Dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. Located at the Norway pavilion in Epcot, the buffet features some Norwegian specialties that will likely be new to you. And the picky folks will still have the American options too.

Planning Your Trip to Disneyland Paris - Make Use of the Fastpass System

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the problems you may encounter when you visit Disneyland Paris is that some of the popular rides get very long queues and the last thing you want to do is spend valuable time in a queue line, by using Disney's Fastpass system you can pre-plan your ride and hopefully minimise the time spent in queues.

So what actually is Fast Pass and how can you use it?

When you buy your entry ticket to Disney you need to keep it safe as this is the key to using the system. At many of the popular rides you will find an area allocated to turnstile type machines that issue special tickets that enable you to come back to the ride at a later time and by following the special Fastpass entrance will enable you to walk virtually straight onto the ride.

The time slots available will be shown on boards above the ticket machines, insert your entrance card and you will be issued with a ticket to come back at this time. A word of warning however once you have obtained a Fastpass ticket for a ride you will not be able to get another until the time of that ticket has expired, this makes the system fairer and gives everyone an equal chance of getting on some rides faster.

Peter Pan seems to be the most popular ride and the Fastpass tickets for this ride run out by early afternoon so I would recommend that you book this first to ensure you don't miss out on this magical experience (queues for this are often over 1 hour!).

So make use of this facility that Disney has provided it will make you day far more enjoyable and hopefully mean that you will get to go on more rides.

Disney - The Man, the Mouse, the Company

Walt Disney built an empire only few could ever dream of achieving.

Walt Disney, born in Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901 was one of five children by Elias (Irish-Canadian) and Flora (German-American).

Raised on a humble farm in Missouri, Walt's interest in drawing was already apparent as a young boy. A little known cartoonist in his time, Disney went on and broke all the barriers in the cartoon animation industry.

While working in Kansas for Pesmen-Rubin Art Studio, he met fellow artist Ub Iwerks and became close friends In a matter of time, they decided to form an animated cartoon business together and named it Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists.

The company lasted less than five years so Disney decided to move on to Hollywood to join his brother Roy.

Lady luck seemed to follow Walt to the West Coast for once there he received the good news that a company represented by M.J. Winkler wanted to buy the rights to his series of live-action reels titled Alice Comedies he had made.

From then on Disney proceeded to join Winkler as a production partner until 1927 when he started a new series called Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

While on his way back to California, Disney began thinking of creating another character in the form of a mouse. He later named this mouse character Mickey Mouse and drew up some rough sketches and then finally made several films together with his brother Roy funding it with their own money.

Taking things a step further, Walt Disney decided to add sound to his third Mickey Mouse film entitled "Steamboat Willie" which was met with mockery by film distributors.

But he was soon to prove them wrong because audiences loved the film and Mickey Mouse the star was born.

Disney's films were family oriented and some of his most famous films included the very first colored films such as Snow White and Seven Dwarves followed by Pinocchio, Dumbo and Bambi. Disney's hard work and determination has finally paid off and his name has become a household name almost overnight.

By the mid 1950's, the Disneyland theme park was put up in Anaheim, California along with the debut of the Disneyland television show. Walt Disney also ventured into live action films to make his empire's reach grow even further.

He was hands on with several Disney projects and he demanded the utmost professionalism from his people and the highest quality films for his studios. Disney was not only an innovator but a pioneer.

The company felt some unsteadiness for quite some time after Walt Disney's passing for nobody can seem to match his sense of storytelling and enthusiasm.

But the Disney Company managed to weather the storm and break through due to the efforts of its top honchos and personnel. These people made sure that Disney's legacy will live on, and so will the empire he built.

The company set out and expanded to both foreign and domestic markets; investing in other industries such as music, publishing, the internet, cable television networks and home video aside from the usual popular theme parks, hotels, resorts and Disney merchandise.

To date, Disney's vast scope and scale of properties represents an impressive list of businesses that only few companies worldwide could equal. From humble beginnings, Disney's sprawling empire has grown up unequaled, and it all started because of a little mouse named Mickey.

Disney's California Adventure Getting Old School Disney Makeover

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As I have stated before, the remake of Disney's California Adventure will get some old school Disney styling. It seems Pixar is going to play a major role in the remake of this great but unpopular theme park. The $1.1 billion makeover will be turning to themes that have been popular at other Disney parks. Bob Iger Chief Executive said it good "Disneyland is largely developed, leaving California Adventure as an "entertainment driver for the Disneyland Resort". The hardest part of the entire makeover will be keeping the guest happy. Obviously Disney is not going to close the park. It is said that they will close one section at a time. I am sure the local audience will not be upset, but the out of state might be a different story. This is going to be a huge challenge for Disneyland Resort President Ed Grier, who joined in 2006. This guy will basically have to come up with a way to please all guest in the massive remake. I am sure he will be earning every dollar he makes. The one big thing out of this remake is the hopes that Disney can raise the attendance to over the projected 7 million a year. The park is currently seeing 5 to 6 million a year, while Disneyland park next door enjoys 15 million a year.

Most of the main investment will be transforming the park's entrance into Southern California of the 1920s and '30s, when Walt first arrived in the state. From some of the artist renderings it's looking like the main entrance will match the entrance of Disney's Hollywood Studios formally Disney- MGM Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. "It will be just like walking in Walt's footsteps," said Bob Weis, executive vice president at Walt Disney Imagineering." Quoted from the Orange County Business Journal.

Image © Disney
The first section of California Adventure's makeover opened in June with Toy Story Mania. Which also opened very successfully at Walt Disney World. The Sun on the Sun Wheel will be replaced with Mickey Mouse's face. Mulholland Madness, a small roller coaster that mimics a taxi ride in the Los Angeles hills, Image © Disney is set to be redone as a Goofy's Sky Skool coaster. Voyages of The Little Mermaid a ride that will treat you to a journey under the sea will replace the Golden Dreams Theater.

As said by the Orange County Business Journal, "Disneyland attendance and hotel occupancy slipped during the September quarter from a year earlier, executives said". This means Disney will definably make sure this goes on a fast pace. Realistically I think attendance slipped at every theme park destination in the United States, including Walt Disney World in Orlando.

Exclusive Sneak Peek: Walt Disney's Tangled

The Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, CA, recently hosted a press event for their upcoming movie, TANGLED. Having been around the name "Disney" from such an early age and having so much of it influence my life to this day, it was truly an honor and an experience of a lifetime to attend a behind the scenes look at Disney's new animated film.

Walt Disney had wanted to create the Rapunzel story back in the 1940s, but the studio never got around to it. The time had finally come and the right team of 50+ animators took on the task of bringing TANGLED to life.

The morning began with the screening of the movie on the Walt Disney studio lot. Before the film began, producer Roy Conli and directors Byron Howard and Nathan Greno gave a short introduction. They explained that even though the voices and sound have been finished, the animation was only 60 percent complete. The remaining parts were shown as very rough storyboards or as unfinished CG animation.

For those of us who may have felt that Disney has lost its magic during certain spurts in recent history, seemingly creating movies just for the heck of it, TANGLED is a breath of fresh air. It was very important for Howard and Greno to achieve the timeless feel from past Disney movies created decades ago.

"We love Disney from the 40s and 50s and we looked at what made those movies great. Because we're making a computer-generated movie, this would all be fresh; it would be unlike anything you've ever seen before, but it's still tied into our roots," Greno said. TANGLED is as close as a computer-generated 3-D film can possibly get to the classic 2-D animated masterpieces that Walt Disney himself helped supervise.

The film was originally slated to be entitled Rapunzel, but as Disney's story for the film developed, it became clear that the leading male character, Flynn, had an equal part in the storyline. Here's where the name change to Tangled came in. However, the new title may also bring influence at the box office.

Disney was expecting a higher turnout for The Princess and the Frog, which some may believe can be attributed to the use of the word "princess" in the title, and had deterred male audiences from viewing the movie. Instead of using the female lead's name as the title, like many other Disney films have done ("Sleeping Beauty", "Mulan", "Snow White", "Mary Poppins", etc.), hopefully boys and men will realize that it is not a story solely about the girl. Not that a title should ever discourage one from seeing a movie, however; I watched my fair share of Peter Pan, Hercules and Aladdin. Even so, the directors and producers have done a wonderful job in balancing the storyline between the two lead roles.

After the movie screening, the press was split into four groups according to the character on our badges. The groups rotated around the studio experiencing different presentations. My first stop was in the room dedicated to "Character Creation" which included a panel of a handful of animators who each discussed their specific role in the making of TANGLED.

Rapunzel's 70 foot hair was treated like an actual character. The main belief shared by all the TANGLED animators is that "it's not JUST hair." The animators discussed how they had to study physics and the movement of real hair so that it would look completely natural and not robotic in any way.

The second item on the agenda was a small studio tour including the Tangled Production Pod where Conli, Howard and Greno's offices are located. The common area was themed with some vintage "Sleeping Beauty" and Cinderella artwork from the 50s. Unlike the exotic trips that were taken to Africa in order to gain inspiration for "The Lion King", the directors and producers took a trip to Anaheim and visited Fantasyland inside Disneyland for creative ideas for this movie.

Tim Mertens, who has previously worked with Howard and Greno on Disney's "Bolt", gave a short presentation about the editing process. He explained that he will ask any Disney cast member who has some acting ability, to perform some lines of dialogue called "scratch dialogue." With this, he can work on the timing and placement of character lines before the actual recording is done.

The third featured area during this time allowed a chance for individuals to break free from their group and have a picture taken in front of a green screen. The printout, which was given to each person who took a photo, featured the character of Flynn. There were also four games set up and those who participated in all four received an authentic lithograph from the movie.

After the activities, the journalists were ushered back to the theater where they had watched the movie earlier in the day. Here, the directors offered many words of praise for the animators who had given so much time and effort to this movie. After a short film dedicated to the animators, Greno and Howard had a surprise for the audience that was not on the schedule: John Lasseter descended the steps to the front of the theater to a round of applause.

The chief creative officer for Pixar and Walt Disney Animation, discussed how this studio has changed over the years after Pixar and Disney merged. They have really worked to make it more of a filmmaker-driven studio said Disney's head honcho, in contrast to others, which are executive-driven studios. Lasseter said of Tangled, "Even though this is based upon a well-loved tale, this is such a fresh, modern, and contemporary take on it with all the characters and the humor. But with all the humor, we never forget the heart. The hallmark of a film with the name Disney on it -- is heart. Walt Disney said, 'For every laugh, there should be a tear,' and we really believe that."

The last few hours of the day at Disney Animation Studios were committed to a lunch hour, a photo date with TANGLED's leading man Flynn and topped off with the Swag Bag complete with shirt, hat and brush...for ALL that hair!

For its 50th animated feature, Disney has done a tremendous job with TANGLED. The filmmakers and animators have created memorable characters. Rapunzel (who I'm convinced, MUST use anti-breakage shampoo, considering all the stunts her hair pulls) is a sheltered, but enterprising young girl. Flynn Rider (voiced by Zachary Levi) is the roguish, confident thief (think Renaissance period Aladdin) who befriends Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) by accident. The horse, Maximus, is sure to win over audiences with his hilarious dog-like characteristics. Pascal, Rapunzel's faithful chameleon sidekick, is an unwavering ally in good times and bad. The villain of the film, the deceitful Mother Gothel, will undoubtedly join the ranks of famous Disney villains like Ursula and Maleficent when TANGLED opens November 24th in Disney Digital 3D.

Disneyland Vacation Deals

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Disneyland is one of the most magical places for you and your family, but you don't need to bust your bank account to enjoy the magic. While Disneyland is not exactly shouting out the offers whenever they advertise, they do offer a lot of deals and packages for the smart consumer. Keep a sharp eye out for any of these deals, and give them a go if you are interested to go for a vacation in Disneyland:

Hotel Packages

One of the first Disneyland vacation deals that you need to look out for are the hotel packages, especially if you are not in the locality of Southern California. Of particular significance are the 2009 resort hotel package and the 2009 Good Neighbor hotel package. The latter package offers accommodations in the nearby Good Neighbor hotel, while the former package houses you directly inside the Disneyland resort. Both packages are valid until January 4, 2010.

The Kids Fly Free package, on the other hand, is a package deal with the Clarion Hotel Anaheim Resort. The resort is very near to Disneyland, so it can pass off as one of the legitimate Disneyland vacation deals available to the public. The catch, though, is that the basic price ranges are limited to including one child and adult. You would have to pay substantially more to bring along additional people in the package.

Birthday Promo

The Disneyland Birthday Promo offers up free admission for those birthday celebrants wishing to spend their special day in Disneyland. US and Canadian residents need to register online to be eligible for free admission, while non-US or Canadian guests only need to bring a government-issued ID and a valid passport to qualify for the free admission offer. While this is technically not one of the Disneyland vacation deals, it is still a good way to shave off a few bucks on the day's total expenses.

Resident Offers

If you are a resident of Southern California, then you are very legible for the Southern California CityPass offer that includes not only Disneyland, but Universal Studios, SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo's Wild Park as well. It's a pretty neat offer for locals who want to unwind and have some fun in the various areas, but it may turn non-residents green with envy. For specific Disneyland vacation deals, however, you can expect to get a free 3-day admission into the resort.

Premium and Deluxe Annual Passport

If you are a diehard fan of Disneyland, then you may want to opt for the premium or deluxe annual passport.

These passports allow you unlimited access to Disneyland's attractions, albeit the deluxe passport has a few limitations. There are certain 'block out' days wherein the deluxe passport will be void, with a total of 315 legible days for the owner to go to Disneyland. Most of these block out days occur on holidays and weekends, which may prove to be problematic for the weekend warrior.

The premium annual passport, on the other hand, is one of the better Disneyland vacation deals as it allows full 365-day access to all attractions. These passports are a bit costlier than their deluxe counterparts, but are a viable option for anyone who wants to regularly spend their weekends at Disneyland.

Disneyland Makes Real Magic

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I'm always looking for ways to help people improve customer satisfaction. One of the most effective methods I've seen in action came courtesy of Disney.

We spent two days at Disneyland when my daughter, Brighten, was seven years old. I found the entire park to be a well-oiled, emotionally fulfilling enterprise. They do just about everything right to improve customer satisfaction.

I was impressed by the rides, shows and dedicated staff (called "cast members"). Many cast members wear colorful pins commemorating Disneyland history and lore: Bambi's birthday, Mickey and his friends, Piglet, Pooh, Beauty and the Beast. On arrival, Brighten was given a lanyard with four identical pins she could trade with any cast member in the park.

Each time Brighten met someone with colorful pins she admired, that person knelt down to meet Brighten at eye-level. With a genuine smile, they said enthusiastically, "Would you like to trade pins with me?" It sounded like the most exciting moment of their lives.

At seven years old, choosing can take time, especially with so many pins to pick from. Brighten never felt rushed to make a choice. And every time a trade was made, the staff gave Brighten a big "Thank you!" and a friendly smile.

I don't remember which pins Brighten traded. But I will never forget the energy and joy Disneyland staff brought to those precious moments of human contact. They improve customer satisfaction by making an experience "magical."

Meeting Wayan From Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat, Pray, Love"

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The book Eat, Pray, Love, topped the New York Times best seller list for a year. Author Elizabeth Gilbert writes about her quest to 'find herself' after a devastating divorce. She spends four months in Italy eating fabulous food, four months in India meditating in an ashram and four months in Bali finding love and contentment. I read Eat, Pray, Love just before my trip to Bali.

Wayan was my favorite character in the book. She's the proprietor of a small healing shop and restaurant in the city of Ubud. Elizabeth Gilbert is riding her bicycle in Ubud and falls injuring her knee. She goes to the shop for some ointment to heal her wound and ends up making friends with Wayan and her cute, irrepressible daughter, Tutti. Wayan has left an abusive husband and is having difficulty surviving on her own, since in Balinese culture divorce carries such a strong stigma. Wayan is often forced to move her business from one rental site to another and so has trouble holding onto enough established clients to be financially successful. Elizabeth Gilbert puts out an appeal to American friends to donate money to buy Wayan her own shop. It doesn't take Gilbert long to collect $18,000. Before she leaves Bali, Gilbert sees Wayan established in a mortgage free two-storey building.

It isn't hard to find Wayan's shop. Gilbert's book says it is a few doors up the road from the Ubud post office and that is exactly where my friend Kathy and I found it. The hand painted sign out front invited us in to have a massage, learn Balinese dance, buy medicinal plants, eat a healthy Vitamin Lunch or be healed of whatever ailed us. Huge pots on the shop's front patio contained various herbs like ginseng, jasmine and aloe vera. Each pot had a sign that told you what illnesses that particular plant could help to cure.

We wandered inside. The restaurant had three tables. Wayan met us and after escorting us to the one table available asked if we had come to eat or be healed. We told her we were hungry after a morning of wandering the shops and galleries of Ubud and so she and her assistant began bringing food to our table. They grated tumeric and mixed it with ginger, honey and water to make a delicious juice. They brought us three kinds of seaweed, each flavored in a different way. We ate uniquely spiced melon and tomato served on banana leaves. We had rice and salad. As each dish came to the table Wayan told us whether it was good for our stomach, kidneys, hearts or love lives.

Wayan said for only a small, added cost we could have a healthy body check at the end of the meal, but she was very busy when we finished eating doing body checks for a group of French women sitting at another table. I noted one of them had a French copy of Eat, Pray, Love tucked into her bag. The book has been translated into more than thirty languages.

Since Kathy and I knew our husbands would already be waiting for us back at our hotel we decided to leave. We bid Wayan farewell.

One of the things I like to do whenever I travel is read a book set in the country I'm visiting. It makes the place come alive for me. I don't always get a chance to actually step into the pages of the books and meet one of the characters I've read about. Happily I was able to do that in Bali.

Ten Attributes Of An Entrepreneurial Titan

Image : http://www.flickr.com

"Conviction is a belief you hold... and it holds you."
Bobby Allison

Entrepreneurial titans envision dominating an industry. Walt Disney, Howard Schultz, Bill Gates, both Watsons, Coco Channel, Bill France, Sam Walton, and Henry Ford didn't just rise to dominate their industry - they created or unalterably changed their industries. Each suffered disappointment as fellow pioneers couldn't or wouldn't share their vision. Each struggled for years against enormous financial odds. Each remained steadfast, carefully putting in place one block after another until everyone could finally see their castle in the sky. Each endeavor eventually reached critical mass, exploding onto the world scene with all the appearance of an overnight success christened by luck. Each industrialist achieved their vision through audacity, perseverance, and uncommon skill. None understood the enmity or envy of those who declined to take the trip with them.

What each of these entrepreneurs had in mind was something larger and grander than anyone had previously imagined. They didn't want to merely win; they wanted to elevate the game to a whole new level. The world is filled with dreamers, but these people had a quality that went beyond dreaming: They had the ego, skill, and determination to make their dreams a reality for the rest of us.

Entrepreneurial Titans, independent of their business, display a surprising consistency in character. We call these characteristics the Ten Traits of Entrepreneurial Titans. As you examine these extraordinary people, the similarities become striking. The titans love what they do, constantly imagine taking their empires to a higher elevation, communicate clearly, approach their business with a marketing perspective, continuously improve their products and services, stay in constant contact with every aspect of their business, think strategically and act opportunistically, relentlessly pursue their goals, take whatever risks are necessary, and surround themselves with exceptionally talented people.

Since few of us will ever try to reach their level of accomplishment, how valuable is it to study these traits? Success in any endeavor requires the same attributes. It is not a difference in kind, only in hue. The titans single-handedly change our lives, but our economy is moved along more by the cumulative effect of thousands of smaller successes. Understanding-and emulating-the traits of the titans will help you dominate your small corner of the world.

The Ten Traits of Entrepreneurial Titans

1. Love of Aspiration

2. Uncommon and Unwavering Vision

3. Skilled Communicators

4. Market Focused

5. Product Obsessed

6. Always Engaged

7. Strategic, Tactical, Opportunistic

8. Driven and Tenacious

9. Risks Takers

10. Collectors of Bright and Talented People

1. LOVE OF ASPIRATION

Bill France Sr. (NASCAR) started racing in high school, Steven Spielberg operated a film camera for years before he was eligible to apply for a drivers license, Bill Gates wrote his first program prior to the invention of personal computers, Charles Barkley practiced jumping over a backyard fence in junior high school, Walt Disney doodled as a doughboy in World War I, and Warren Buffet bought his first stock at age eleven. These examples became icons in stock car racing, film, computers, basketball, family entertainment, and investing.

We could list many more examples of people who started honing their skills extremely young. An early start, however, has less to do with their success than you might expect. The real secret is that they stayed with a profession that claimed their heart, mind, and spirit. Entrepreneurial titans get people excited about their vision. This is hard to accomplish if you're not excited yourself. Think about it-all these people got rich doing what they liked best in the world. They didn't go to work in the morning; they went to play at their favorite pastime.

Jealous people like to portray entrepreneurial titans as unhappy and obsessed. This may be only half true. Obsessed people are happy only when they're engaged in their obsession. By this measure, entrepreneurial titans are a happy lot. The breed may be happy, but they are never satisfied despite their accumulated accomplishments. Titans always feel compelled to climb the next peak-one shrouded to everyone else by a misty haze.

Now look at your own professional life. Are you excited when you wake and disappointed when the day is done. If not, then ask yourself why you originally chose your profession. Most of us found our jobs exciting when everything was fresh. If you've gone stale, you need to find a way to rekindle your enthusiasm. On the other hand, if you became trapped by expediency, you may need to consider starting over. If you want to emulate the titans, you must enjoy your work. We all have a secret aspiration. If you have to drag yourself into work, then take your secret aspiration out of the recesses of your mind and find a way to make money doing what you love. No matter what it is-if you get creative-you can have more fun and make more money.

2. UNCOMMON AND UNWAVERING VISION

Entrepreneurial titans see things differently than the rest of us. Bill France and Walt Disney believed that if they respectively built Daytona Speedway and Disneyland, people would storm into their parks. Henry Ford saw the automobile as a ordinary family appliance, not as a toy for the well-to-do. When computers were the size of a small house, Bill Gates foresaw a computer on every desktop. Coco Channel visualized simplicity as elegance and style. Ted Turner perceived a ready audience for 24 hour a day news. Entrepreneurial titans possess vision beyond the commonplace and never waver from their view of the possible.

Their vision tends to remain constant, but they continually elevate their sights to a higher plane. Despite all his accomplishments, Walt Disney never finished making his dreams come true. He pushed sound into cartoons, made the first full-length animated movie against everyone's advice, and built an amusement park that defied every convention of the entertainment industry. Toward the end of his life, he left the confines of fantasy with Epcot Center, intent on showing people how to build an entire city. If Disney had lived long enough, perhaps he would have reengineered the world.

Everyone has a passion. The trick is to visualize how to take your passion to a new or enlarged market. Despite the internet being around for decades, it took web browsers to make it easy for everyone to traverse the information superhighway. The human body always needed fuel, but Ray Kroc made fast food part of our culture. Automotive tires remained static for years until the radial came along to reenergize the industry. Thomas Jefferson, and the other founding fathers, even visualized redesigning government for the new world.

Entrepreneurial titans are not smarter than other people; they merely spend more time thinking about how to change the dynamics of their passion. They're individuals who consciously look at things from different angles until they get a unique perspective. Although some people seem to have a natural knack for visualization, this skill can be further developed in anyone. It just takes practice. Take your passion and question everything about it. Sooner-but probably later-you'll come up with a twist or completely new concept that can propel your passion into a livelihood.

3. SKILLED COMMUNICATORS

Unless you're an artist or writer, it's unlikely you can single-handedly make your vision come to life. When you need resources or skills beyond your personal capability, you must convincingly communicate your vision to others. People can't follow you unless they know where you're going. Entrepreneurs communicate their vision and sell all the time. They sell their vision, their ideas, their organizations, their products, and themselves.

Characteristics of Good Communication

1) Clear and simple,
2) repetitive,
3) illustrative.

Entrepreneurial titans explain their ideas and concepts until the uninitiated understand, they repeat their message at every opportunity, and they use illustrative examples. Their intent is to paint a picture in people's minds-a picture that people can see and strive toward. The description is generally short, always clear, and frequently presented as an allegory or metaphor. When Bill Gates first started running around talking to everyone about a computer on every desktop, computers for individuals were the province of introverted hobbyists. Entrepreneurial titans may not hit on the best description immediately, but they keep experimenting until they find the right words and expressions to get the world to endorse their ideas-or at least enough of the world to build their dream.

4. MARKET FOCUSED

Entrepreneurial titans don't build edifices merely to massage their egos- they also want the public to come in droves. These are not private dreams. To attract customers, they think about their business from a marketing perspective. They target a specific market segment, brand their product, ceaselessly promote their wares, and use value pricing that baffles their competitors.

Market Focused Titans

1. Target a Specific Market Segment
2. Brand Products
3. Promote Relentlessly
4. Price for Value

Market Segmentation

Entrepreneurial titans study the marketplace until they find a segment they can dominate-then they focus on this segment until they own it. Walt Disney stridently kept his enterprise focused on family entertainment. Howard Schultz restricted the amount of food sold in Starbucks. Bill France never ventured away from racing stockcars. McDonalds never branched into fine dining. Coco Channel never endorsed a Sears line of clothing. Penske stayed focused on transportation.

You seldom see a scatter-gun approach from one of the entrepreneurial titans. They constantly enlarge their customer base, but generally they accomplish this objective by extending the boundaries of their existing market.

Branding

Penske does not own race teams and blaze his name all over his products just because he wants people to see his name. He understands the value of branding a product. IBM, in its heyday, became so closely associated with computers that the computer in the movie 2001 was named HAL, which is IBM lowered by one letter in the alphabet. The Golden Arches are synonymous with McDonalds. Ted Turner made CNN into a worldwide recognized brand. Despite lots of other entries, Steve Jobs got the world to view IPod as the only branded entry in the personal music market.

Branding requires more than advertising and promotion. An irrevocable law of the marketplace is that products must always be consistent with the branded image. Imagine if Apple introduced a new product with a clunky design. The product would not only flop, it would shock and disappoint Apple enthusiasts-so much that it would probably erode the market share of other Apple products. Imagine if Gucci came out with products priced for the middle class. Oh wait, they did, and Gucci is still struggling to regain the brand cachet.

Coco Channel insisted that her designs could be identified on sight. When you went to a Disney movie-at least when Walt was alive-you knew exactly what to expect. Ray Kroc dictated that every McDonalds restaurant anywhere in the world serve food to the exact same specifications. Auto Zone operates over 1500 stores that look identical. Entrepreneurial titans find a formula, brand it into the consciousness of the world, and then strive to never harm their brand by misusing it.

Promote Products and Organization

Walt Disney insisted that every part of his entertainment enterprise promote every other part. The park promoted the movies, the films were used to leverage the television program, and television promoted everything in Walt's kingdom. You can see the same philosophy demonstrated in Penske Enterprises, France's multiple endeavors, and Bill Gates software strategy. Once momentum is established in one area, it is used to launch product extensions or to support weaker areas. Entrepreneurial titans sell and promote relentlessly.

Pricing

Walmart and Nordstrom use different pricing models which correspond with their chosen market. They both leverage their size, local market conditions, and customer preferences to stock merchandise that represent a value to their customers. Each department store appeals to a different economic segment, but both chains have established pricing policies to insure that customers feel like they got more for their money than if they drove down the street to another store. Rendering value in exchange for the customer's hard earned cash generates ever-increasing sales.

Entrepreneurial titans exhibit an ever-present concern over pricing and value. Despite the expense of Coco Channel's fashions, she made sure her customers felt like they received a timeless design for their patronage. Henry Ford's entire business was predicated on a new pricing model. Microsoft consistently uses pricing as a competitive weapon. NASCAR allows each track to independently negotiate their own television contract so pricing stays consistent with the market appeal of a specific race. If you aspire to emulate the entrepreneurial titans, you need to personally involve yourself in pricing decisions so you can insure that you maintain your customer base and they are so pleased with your value equation that they help you lure new customers into the fold.

5. PRODUCT OBSESSED

Entrepreneurial titans are distinguished by an obsession with their products or services. Beyond enthusiastically extolling their products to everyone within earshot, they involve themselves in every aspect of the product life cycle. They love what they do and they love the products that come from their passion. Entrepreneurial titans crave growth, and growth requires producing something people want to buy. People who build empires shun cost cutting, cash cow strategies because they find running in place boring-and unacceptable. They don't chase after money, they chase after empire, and money just follows.

Entrepreneurial titans are characteristically innovators, not inventors. Inventors tend to be inwardly focused with analytical minds, while the titans' vision comes from being hyper-alert to the peopled world around them. Although titans may not be inventive, they see markets for new technology that the inventor never anticipated. They view products from the consumer's perspective, constantly thinking up new ways to increase buyer appeal. They change the scale of their products, innovate around the edges, force new market segmentation, discover new applications for existing technology, and rejuvenate mature products with new designs and packaging.

Entrepreneurial titans constantly search for ever-improving products. Disney's clean and tidy park, McDonalds' exacting specifications for fries, Microsoft's relentless product improvement, Walmart's use of computers, CNN's compulsion to be first in news worldwide, and NASCAR's fan-friendly image all represent examples of the titan's pursuit of exemplary products and services. The customer is never to be disappointed.

6. ALWAYS ENGAGED

Entrepreneurial titans stay engaged in every aspect of their business. Genuine titans never put their companies on cruise control. In return, the titans receive unflagging loyalty from their customer. From product development, pricing, packaging, staffing, brick and mortar, strategy, publicity, financing, and myriad other details, the titans tend to hold tight reins. This doesn't mean they don't delegate, but they tend to restrict subordinates' freedom until they demonstrate a consistent application of the titan's vision.

Today, most people speak reverently of Walt Disney, but a few ol' timers criticize his omnipresent enforcement of his personal vision. Bill Gates is notorious for digging into the intricate details of Microsoft's products. Henry Ford intimately involved himself in both product design and production processes. Bill France Sr. shared a fetish with Walt Disney for a neat and tidy park.

Many titans invent shortcuts to keep a watchful eye on everything. Disney required his animators to post their work outside their offices. Then in the evening, after they went home, he would wander around sticking colored-coded pins in work he either liked or felt needed further development.

Entrepreneurial titans possess a vision that is larger than they can deliver on their own. They must employ people, so the titans spend the majority of their time tuning other people's work so it stays consistent with their vision. Walt Disney described his management style as being like a bee, flitting from point to point pollinating ideas. People with a vision of their own tend to learn the ropes from the titans, then move on to a venue where they have more personal freedom of expression. Entrepreneurial titans run entrepreneurial schools, where graduates frequently build related businesses in close proximity to their mentors. In the long run, however, entrepreneurs do not work for entrepreneurs.

7. STRATEGIC, TACTICAL, AND OPPORTUNISTIC

Entrepreneurial titans think strategically. Their strategy tends to remain consistent over a long period-frequently for their entire life. They know exactly where they want to go and chart a course to get there. Because their vision doesn't waver, their strategy can remain relatively constant. No annual strategic planning exercises for them, the vision and strategy are so imbued within their entire organization that they concentrate on tactical plans.

The titans adjust their tactics depending on competition, finances, the economy, and industry trends. Bill Gates originally underestimated the importance of Internet technology, but quickly redirected resources when his mistake became obvious. Despite the reallocation of resources, his strategy of desktop dominance never wavered. In fact, his strategic imperative of controlling the desktop accelerated his awareness that a threat existed from another technology. Once refocused, Microsoft used the same business strategy to vanquish competitors in the browser wars. That is the advantage of a consistent, well-thought-out strategy, the whole organization can change directions in lock-step without detailed instructions.

The titans are uniformly strategic and tactical, but their real secret is an ingrained ability to seize opportunity. A strategic consistency educates everyone in the organization so that when an unexpected opportunity arises, people recognize and leverage it immediately. Entrepreneurial titans understand that a clear vision and consistent strategy enable opportunism.

8. DRIVEN AND TENACIOUS

Titans approach life with a single-mindedness that scares mere mortals. These highly goal-oriented people feel compelled to take their dream to the next level and make it a reality. To accomplish any huge undertaking requires endurance, tenacity and a strong force of will and will to achieve far outweighs any other talent or asset. These are driven people.

We may not share the strength of their compulsion, but we all understand that our smaller dreams also require a concerted and sustained effort. The lesson here is that if you don't really want it bad enough, luck will seldom present it as a gift. You need to get out there and earn it the ol' fashioned way. Henry Ford once said, "Nobody is proud of what they intend to do."

9. RISK TAKERS

What separates dreamers from doers is a willingness to take enormous risks. The titans always retain supreme confidence in their vision, so even when they're unsure about their abilities, this faith gives them the confidence to repeatedly risk their accomplishments-to-date to reach for the next plateau. Once you become content to ride your previous accomplishments, growth stops, and entrepreneurial titans never stop. Nothing comes free, and continued success requires assuming ever-increasing risk.

In 1988, General Motors wanted to rid itself of moribund Detroit Diesel. Solomon Brothers couldn't find a buyer for an engine supplier that could claim only a 3% market share. Desperate, GM finally cut a deal with Roger Penske for $35 million. Penske quickly reversed the downward spiral, cut costs, introduced new products, and established strategic relationships with his other operations. By 1991, market share had increased to 26%, sales doubled, and the number of hours-per-engine dropped from 72 to 13. Penske sold 25% of Detroit Diesel to the public in 1993 for $95 million, $60 million more than he paid for the entire company. How did he do it? Penske says, "We took more risks."

An ability to realistically appraise the potential reward against the required risk separates the foolish from the astute businessperson. Bill Gates worked in partnership with IBM until he calculated that the potential rewards of going on alone compensated for the risk. Disney felt comfortable with his repeated bet-your-company ventures because he had a longer time horizon than his bankers. The titans take risks-but their multi-dimensional thinking finds an edge that the more conventional overlook.

10. COLLECT BRIGHT AND TALENTED PEOPLE

Talent does not intimidate true leaders. They know they need highly capable people with many different skills to build their dream. The entrepreneurial titans recognize talent in an eye blink and immediately pull these people into their organization. Smarter, more capable, and experienced people give the titans a distinct advantage over their average competitors.

NASCAR racing is a pure meritocracy. Competition weeds out mediocre drivers, crew chiefs, pit and garage mechanics, spotters, and general managers. People in racing carry this competitive, merit philosophy into their business ventures-it's the biggest single reason why so many racers succeed in business. Talk to a racer about business and you'll soon discover that they employ the best talent they can find, whether it's their own staff or professional services. Racing has conditioned them to search for the best in any field and pay commensurate with ability and dedication.

Microsoft has been criticized for its policy of annually dismissing people whose performance puts them in the bottom ten percent. Since Microsoft's average skill level exceeds the industry, a low performing Microsoftie probably would be a high performer in another company. Gates objective is not to punish the bottom ten percent, but to make sure that Microsoft doesn't get complacent and allow performance to drop closer to their competition.

As you examine your staff, continuously work to raise the average performance level. You can do this by making sure every new hire exceeds the capability of your average performer. If you want to build something great, you need a continuous upward spiral in organizational performance.

PRACTICE THE TRAITS

Detractors of the enormously successful often portray these same ten traits as obsessive, dogmatic, glib, monopolistic, hypercritical, tyrannical, lucky, stubborn, foolish, and as weak players who exploit the skills of others. Taken to an extreme, this characterization might hold some validity. But we are not talking about Al Capone or Adolf Hitler. Entrepreneurial titans play by the rules. True, they continuously test the perimeter, and may even venture a little over the line to probe the limits, but the people we discussed in this chapter are competitive creatures who want to win accolades as victors in a hard fought, honest game. If you want to do something monumental, you cannot go about it the same way as everyone else.

Review these ten traits and ask yourself which ones you need to practice to hone your own skills. To emulate the giants of industry, you need to break from the herd, commit yourself to bringing your best to work every morning, and think creatively. Dream big, challenge existing norms, investigate new methods, leverage technology, and use existing channels to deliver something fresh and useful. But stay in bounds.

Mickey Mouse - A Reflection of Walt Disney

Mention the name Walt Disney and one cannot help but imagine images of superior animation, magnificent theme parks, an entertainment and financial empire and the little guy who started it all -Mickey Mouse.

In 1928, Walt Disney had run into bad times while working in Kansas City. Most of his hired animators had left him and went to work for a competing studio. Things looked bleak, but out of a desperate situation came a new character. Inspired by a mouse that prowled his office, that at one point Disney could not afford cheese to feed it anymore, Mickey Mouse was born. Mickey Mouse is now the most recognizable cartoon in the world. His lasting appeal to people of all nations is one of the great phenomena's of the twentieth century. The question of why Mickey Mouse has been so successful has been discussed from time to time. Some debate that it is because he was one of the first seriously animated characters. Others say the manner in which he is drawn is unique compared to other cartoons. Although the success of Mickey Mouse seems to be a mystery to many, his success is the representation of the value of Walt Disney.

In this essay I will look at Mickey Mouse using the value analysis critique. Value analysis is the identifying of a value or values that define a culture or a person. So in this paper I will look specifically at what value Mickey Mouse represents and why that value has made him into the most successful cartoon character in the world.

The optimism of Mickey Mouse comes from that of his creator, Walt Disney. In an interview, Walt Disney said the following:

"Sometimes I've tried to figure out why Mickey appealed to the whole world. Everybody's tried to figure it out. So far as I know, nobody has. He's a pretty nice fellow who never does anybody harm, who gets into scrapes through no fault of his own, but always manages to come up grinning."

Mickey "always manages to come up grinning" because Disney learned how to "come up grinning."

Looking at the all the times in Walt Disney's life when he was down, one can see that nothing could ever stop him because he always got back up. Growing up on the farm in Marceline, Missouri his family had their share of bad times. Two years in a row the crops failed and Disney's father, Elias, had to mortgage the farm. Then the well where the Disney family and the livestock got their water became contaminated. After swine fever had hit the hog herd, Elias became extremely ill with typhoid. He hovered between life and death for several weeks at the hospital. Walt's older brother Roy enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War I and Walt, being inspired by his brother but still being a year too young to enlist, persuaded a Red Cross recruiter to let him join up. Walt was shipped off to France in October 1918, when the war was practically over. However, he saw the devastated lands over which the war had been fought. He spent ten months in France and told friends that it constituted "a lifetime of experience."

In the fall of 1919 Disney tried to get a job as a newspaper cartoonist in Kansas City but was turned down by all the papers. He became discouraged but remained determined, and got a job at the Pesmen-Rubin Commercial Art Studio. There he became friends with a Dutchman named Ub Iwerks. A few weeks after Christmas, both of them were laid off and Disney and Iwerks decided to "come up grinning" and go into business for themselves. They got a job in February, 1920 at the Kansas City Film Ad Company.

Disney began to experiment with animation and gradually completed several cartoons that he shipped off to local theaters. He approached the owner of the Film Ad Company, A. Vern Cauger, with a suggestion to develop a series of cartoon shorts. His idea was rejected, so Disney decided to "come up" again and break out on his own. He collected $15,000 from local investors and used the money to assemble a small studio with a working crew. Walt joined with his brother Roy as business partners to eventually establish the three-room Disney Brother Studios in Los Angeles.

Walt signed a contract with New York distributor, Margaret Winkler, and her backer, Universal Studios, for one series and an option for two more of "Alice's Wonderland." An animated comedy that featured a live-action six year old filmed in a cartoon setting. The initial contract called for one cartoon per month. In 1924, Margaret Winkler's husband, Charles Mintz, took over the distribution company and demanded one film every three weeks. In 1926 with a steady income, a new studio was built and a new animated character, named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, was developed. He debuted in 1927 and became a great success. In 1928 the current Oswald contract expired and Mintz concocted a scheme to make Disney and his studio fold over to him, slowly luring away the majority of Walt's staff. Disney negotiated with Mintz for a new contract, and was stunned when Mintz offered him less money and told him to take it or leave it. Within days, most of Disney's other animators went to work for Mintz also. Roy Disney was very upset and asked his brother, "Do you realize what sort of situation we are in? We've lost our animators and it looks like we'll lose our studio." Facing the first major crisis of his career with a "grin," Walt held secret brainstorming sessions with Ub Iwerks, and his brother Roy. At a time when things seemed to be at their worst, here emerged Mickey Mouse.

Like his creator, Mickey also had his share of hard times and was able to always get back up. In 1928, Mickey starred in his first film, "Plane Crazy" and then followed "Gallopin' Gaucho." His third film was a breakthrough innovation that incorporated sound for the first time called "Steamboat Willie." In "Steamboat Willie" Mickey gets into a "scrape" with the captain but tries to remain confident and pretend he is not afraid of the captain when his expression sometimes dictates otherwise. Even in the earliest of cartoon shorts Mickey does not back down from his problems. There were many times in Walt's life when he was faced with a scary situation but chose to keep his head up and move forward. "Mickey didn't seek trouble, and he didn't complain; he rolled with the punches...as in "The Little Tailor," he showed warrior resourcefulness and won, once again, a kiss from dear,...Minnie." Mickey Mouse's relentlessness to remain optimistic when confronting the struggle was drawn into him by Walt Disney's pen.

The personality of Mickey Mouse is that of his author, Walt Disney. As a young man, Walt Disney always impressed friends and family alike "with his mischievous curiosity and fun-loving nature." His younger sister Ruth took note that he had an engaging personality and "was always thinking of ideas." She said that throughout his whole life, "Walt always seemed like a kid to me." Mickey is the kind of fellow who is always playing around and playing jokes. The entire concept of the creation of Disneyland and Disneyworld, the two major theme parks, and its spokesman, Mickey Mouse, is to inspire people to keep the wonder, youth and fun of life alive and well in everyone. Walt Disney always seemed like a kid to his sister, Ruth, and so does Mickey Mouse. A cartoon never grows old and never changes with age, it never dies. When Ub Iwerks was shown Walt's preliminary sketches of Mickey he said, "he looks just like you--same nose, same face, same whiskers, same gestures and expressions. All he needs now is your voice." Walt admitted that he would look in the mirror and use his face as a model and that many of the facial expressions were his." Mickey's appealing charisma of youth and joy to make others happy comes from the imaginations of Walt Disney's desire to make others happy.

Mickey Mouse's perseverance to succeed is why he is so appealing. In America the majority of people were all the "little guy." The decade that preceded Mickey Mouse, America lived through World War I, and a year after Mickey was created came the Great Depression. The distance that separated the rich from the poor was immense. There wasn't much in between. In contrast, the number of poor and middle-class incomes greatly outnumbered those on the higher end of the social ladder. Walt Disney had also lived along with America during these difficult times as well. Disney had always been the "little guy." He was always getting picked on by Hollywood and tried to be taken advantage of. He speaks of when he was dismally poor in his tiny office of Kansas City and one of his friends was a little mouse. He states "It used to crawl across my desk and I'd feed it bits of cheese. I got quite fond of it and looked forward to its visits." Disney was with nothing but a mouse to look forward to. "It would take the cheese right out of my fingers and then curl up and go to sleep in the palm of my hand," he said. Then there came a period when he could not even afford cheese for the mouse any longer. In those hard times Disney remained determined that he would make his dreams come true as well as everyone else in America also desired.

When the time came that Walt Disney became successful in the creation of Mickey Mouse he could not help but put the very same value characteristic into that mouse that Disney had in himself. Disney knew that he had become a success because he decided to never give up. He decided to take the value of "never quitting" and put it into animated form. Mickey Mouse is an animated creation of the value of "never quitting." Mickey Mouse is so appealing as a cartoon because people in America and all over the world recognize that value to never quit in Mickey. The value of Mickey Mouse is a direct representation of that same value of Walt Disney. The greatest human achievement possible is getting back up just one more time. Anyone who possesses this quality can never be defeated and can do anything. People pick up on that and can feel it in the personality of Mickey Mouse. People want to be like Mickey Mouse and that is why he is so likeable.

Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney are the same exact value. "There's a lot of Mouse in me," Disney said of himself. They both are huge successes. Disney's success came from the worldwide appeal of Mickey Mouse. Mickey's success came from the worldwide appeal of Walt Disney.

In analyzing Mickey Mouse as the text that has permanently become a global phenomenon, and then his creator, the value of "never quitting" is easily identified as the one they both have in common. It is the value that they and the people that admire them also have in common. It answers the question of why Mickey Mouse has become so successful. He is the embodiment of Walt Disney's character. They both had extremely difficult times in their lives just like the majority of people do at some period during theirs. They both endured the hard times because they knew eventually they would become successful. People identify with both of them because they too know they will become successful sooner or later by exercising the same value of "never quitting."

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Disneyland is a super vacation destination for everyone. It is often said that Dinneyland Theme Parks bring out the kid in all that visit. But what about infants? Well, Disneyland even has a special Disney experience just for infants.

It's called The Disneyland Baby Center. It's located behind the Plaza Inn on Main Street. Not to be confused as a babysitting service, the baby center at Disneyland is a place where you can relax and care for your child's needs.

At the baby center, there are special Disney characters present to entertain your baby and assist you with any needs you may have. For moms, you can relax and breast feed your baby in a private, comfortable room. You can take a rest with your baby in a rocking chair and if needed, you can even warm up a bottle of your baby's favorite food.

There are facilities available in the Disneyland Baby Center where you can wash your baby bottles and changing tables for your baby's diaper changing needs. There are even smaller sized toilets available for children who are potty training.

The Disneyland Baby Center also stocks basic baby supplies just in case you run out of your own or have an emergency. You can easily purchase baby necessity items such as diapers, different types of formulas and limited selections of baby food - all at very reasonable prices.

Overall, the Disneyland Baby Center is an exceptional facility that is very clean and comfortable. It is Disney's way of making sure that the needs of all visitors to the Magic Kingdom, no matter how big or small, are well taken care of. If you are thinking of a Disneyland vacation and are worried about bringing your infant child, there is no need to worry. The whole family can enjoy all that Disneyland has to offer.

Disney Pin Collecting - Themes For Your Disney Pin Collection

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Disney Pins have become a remarkably popular collectible among all kinds of Disney fans, especially since Walt Disney World debuted pin trading at the parks during their Millennium celebration for 2000/2001. With the celebration long since over, the pin trading and collecting hasn't let up at all and has expanded to all the other Disney parks as well. Retail prices for pins at the Disney parks are usually between $7 and $14 for individual pins so they aren't too expensive either. If you're buying them from other collectors those prices can go up or down, depending on just how desirable a particular pin is among collectors online.

While many collectors of Disney pins simply buy and trade pins that appeal to them in the moment, it is also possible to build up a pretty substantive collection by sticking to a particular theme. Keeping your collection themed also helps control costs and dealing with the overwhelming selection of pins available. Every month Disney releases dozens of new pins and even with an unlimited pocketbook, it is impossible to get them all. It makes more sense to theme your collection. For example, I only collect Mickey Mouse pins, Stitch pins and pins featuring Walt Disney himself. When I first started collecting, I was much less focused, but once I settled upon my themes, it was easy enough to sell or trade the pins that didn't fit my collection for ones that did.

Some of the themes you might consider for your Disney pin collection are Disney characters. Mickey Mouse, Tinker Bell and Winnie the Pooh are some of the most popular choices among pin collectors and you can amass a collection in the hundreds of just one of these characters. Right now I have at least 75 pins featuring just Mickey Mouse. In order to keep my collection's focus even tighter, I usually only buy the pins that feature Mickey on his own and not with all his friends.

Other themes might include Disney cast member pins - these are pins that are only distributed or sold to Disney employees and they are a very popular collectible item; or you could build your collection on pins only released at Disneyland or in the international parks - Disneyland Paris, Tokyo or Hong Kong. It's all up to you -- you could even specialize in just Disney Cruise Line pins!
