In 1999 the Disney parks introduced the world to FastPass. A free service that uses computerized ticket machines to allow visitors the opportunity to avoid standing in line for the most popular attractions throughout the Disneyland Resort. Waiting in long lines has now become a thing of the past for those who know the ins & out of how to use FastPass.

How the FastPass reservation machines work:

The FastPass attraction machines are extremely easy to use. Just look for the FastPass machines at a participating show or attraction and insert your park admission ticket. The FastPass machine will print you a ticket with a one hour time slot in which you can return and experience the attraction without having to wait in the full length of the queue. Once you have your reservation you can use the time to visit other attractions, pose for a picture with Mickey Mouse, or get an autograph from you favorite Disney Princess. When it is time for your FastPass reservation make your way back to the attraction, hand your pass to the cast member at the entrance and enjoy the ride without any lengthy line.

There are a few restrictions involved with Disney FastPass though. Each guest may hold only one FastPass for one attraction every two hours or after the one-hour window expires; whichever comes first.

The Word of Color FastPass machines at Disney's California Adventure run out early in the day. If you are planning to see the New World of Color performance, you should secure a Fastpass for this attraction upon arriving at the park. A Fastpass is required to watch this show in the best viewing area.
Not all of the machines within the parks are connected to the same reservation system. Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin (Disneyland), World of Color (Disney's California Adventure) and Grizzly River Run (Disney's California Adventure) are each on a totally separate computer reservation system. One of the problems you may encounter when you visit Disneyland Paris is that some of the popular rides get very long queues and the last thing you want to do is spend valuable time in a queue line, by using Disney's Fastpass system you can pre-plan your ride and hopefully minimise the time spent in queues.
 
So what actually is Fast Pass and how can you use it?
 
When you buy your entry ticket to Disney you need to keep it safe as this is the key to using the system. At many of the popular rides you will find an area allocated to turnstile type machines that issue special tickets that enable you to come back to the ride at a later time and by following the special Fastpass entrance will enable you to walk virtually straight onto the ride.
 
The time slots available will be shown on boards above the ticket machines, insert your entrance card and you will be issued with a ticket to come back at this time. A word of warning however once you have obtained a Fastpass ticket for a ride you will not be able to get another until the time of that ticket has expired, this makes the system fairer and gives everyone an equal chance of getting on some rides faster.
 
Peter Pan seems to be the most popular ride and the Fastpass tickets for this ride run out by early afternoon so I would recommend that you book this first to ensure you don't miss out on this magical experience (queues for this are often over 1 hour!).
